Hotdog roast

Mr. Bordush started the fire for us. He laid down a piece of rope called the safety circle to remind the children to stay back from the fire. The children are encouraged to walk when near the fire and only the teachers are allowed to add wood.

We have a wonderful, efficient way of cooking many wieners at once. A metal grate holds quite a bit but you have to pay attention and keep turning them so they don't burn.

While we were waiting for them to cook we took out some large blocks, climbed on the structures and rocks.

The children were happy to hear, "it's time to eat!" They all came running and enjoyed the hotdogs, grapes and lemonade (although hot chocolate would have been welcomed today since it was so chilly).
We made ourselves comfortable on the preschool room's deck as we ate.
What a fun and different way to eat our snack while being outdoors on an early spring day.
As we walked through the centre to come in, we heard many people say how much we smelled like a campfire. Smelling like a campfire reminded some children of summer vacation at their cabins and camping trips.
Perhaps the next time we have a hotdog roast it will be summer and we will be wearing a lot less clothing.
