Hotdog roast

Mr. Bordush started the fire for us. He laid down a piece of rope called the safety circle to remind the children to stay back from the fire. The children are encouraged to walk when near the fire and only the teachers are allowed to add wood.

We have a wonderful, efficient way of cooking many wieners at once. A metal grate holds quite a bit but you have to pay attention and keep turning them so they don't burn.

While we were waiting for them to cook we took out some large blocks, climbed on the structures and rocks.

The children were happy to hear, "it's time to eat!" They all came running and enjoyed the hotdogs, grapes and lemonade (although hot chocolate would have been welcomed today since it was so chilly).
We made ourselves comfortable on the preschool room's deck as we ate.
What a fun and different way to eat our snack while being outdoors on an early spring day.
As we walked through the centre to come in, we heard many people say how much we smelled like a campfire. Smelling like a campfire reminded some children of summer vacation at their cabins and camping trips.
Perhaps the next time we have a hotdog roast it will be summer and we will be wearing a lot less clothing.

Fun with Miss Sonja

Miss Sonja our music teacher came today and along with her guitar she brought along some fun
math and fine motor skill activities.
She sang out the instructions and we attempted to build our castles according to her instructions.
This required us to listen carefully so we would know what to build.
Three on the bottom and two in the middle and one on top.

Build a tall castle. This required a steady hand and concentration!

Build a castle with a friend.

After we had finished building with the cups Miss Sonja gave us all a square of bubble wrap.
What a great workout for our fingers and thumbs and to develop the muscles we need to hold
a pencil in the all important three finger grip.

When we had finished popping all the bubbles we sang Cocorico and then it was home time.
We always look forward to our music day as we get to do so many fun activities.

Large muscle play indoors

On cold and blustery days when we cannot go outside to play we are sooo fortunate to have our large muscle room in which we can run, jump, slide and climb.

We are encouraged to keep our running feet in check until it is time to go to the large muscle room.
We form a long train and walk all the way to the far end of the centre and behind the last door is the coolest room ever, a climbing structure indoors!!!
We are so anxious to get started however before we are let loose we go over the rules so everyone will be safe.

The monkey bars are very challenging. It takes a lot of courage to step off the platform. Even if we can't swing all the way across it is still fun to see how long you can hang on and
when your arms are tired there is a soft mat to land on.

The slide is a favorite and we have found out there is more than one way to go down feet first.

Some of us were unsure of the swinging bridge the first time we went to the large muscle room however in no time we all felt comfortable running over it and bouncing on it.

See how high we can climb on the web. We need to use our large muscles to climb and hang on tight so we don't fall. It can be scary being sooo high but we are all very brave.

After 20 minutes of running, jumping, climbing and sliding we line up for the long walk back to our room. Most of us are very sweaty and our hearts are pumping very fast.
