Field tripping with our friends

One of the great things about about fieldtrips is going somewhere new with your school buddies rather than your family.
Another great thing about fieldtrips is going somewhere you and your family have gone but this time your schools friends are there.
This was the case when we all met up at the Nature Playground at Assiniboine Park. Chances are good everyone has been there, which provides an opportunity to build a sense of community. The children were excited to show their friends where they usually play with their siblings.
We could see who was comfortable with the space as they left our sides and went their own way immediately.

The time went quickly and we were happy to fuel up with our snacks from home.
What a great day to spend with our Nursery School friends.

Spring is for planting

Every room at Discovery has been assigned boxes in which to plant seeds. The other rooms will
be planting vegetables which they can harvest and eat. Since we are not here over the
summer to water and harvest we decided to plant vines that will provide shade in the teepee.

These are the bean seeds that we started indoors.
Pole beans can grow up to eight feet tall.

We chose a box to plant and made holes to put the beans in.

We also planted wild cucumber seeds that also grow very tall.

Mr. Bordush helped us get water so our seeds oils grow.

We can hardly wait for our seeds to sprout.
We can also check on their progress over the summer if we go for
    walks with our family.

Discovering together

Springtime offers us new and wonderful opportunities to explore nature.
Two of our favourite things are ants and worms.
These small creatures have important jobs to do. They have purposeful work to carry out in and for the environment.

They remind me of how children play. Children's play is their work. If we give them long periods of uninterrupted time their play becomes deep and purposeful. They are happy, develop a sense of belonging, team work and social skills, strength and resilience.
These are just some of the benefits of playing outdoors.
Your backyard is a great place to discover the wonders of nature.

Lave les mains

This is one of the first songs we learned and it continues to be a favorite. We often sing this while waiting for our friends to put their clothes in their lockers and wash their hands.

   Lave, lave, lave
   Lave, lave, lave
   Lave mes mains.
   Lave mes mains.
  Je me lave les mains.
  Je me lave les mains.
  Lave les mains.
  Lave les mains

   Lave, lave, lave.(x2)
   Lave mes pieds.(x2)
   Je me lave les pieds.(x2)
   Lave les pieds.(x2)

   Lave, lave, lave.(x2)
   Lave ma tête.(x2)
   Je me lave la tête.(x2)
   Lave la tête. (x2)

You can substitute other body parts for mains, pieds and tête ie nez, oreilles, bras, genous, jambes.

Back from spring break

The start of a new term meant the introduction of new activities.
Various legumes and herbs were incorporated into the play dough to give it texture and
give it aroma.

After a few months away the castle was brought back into the classroom and everyone was very
    excited to have it back.

Another favourite although very noisy toy, is the car ramp. The children never tire of watching
the cars race from the top ramp all the way to the bottom.

Although the Duplo blocks have been out for a long
time they continue to inspire creativity.
