Building with blocks

We have had small wooden blocks in our room since the beginning of the year. We added some large ones a couple of weeks ago and the children have enjoyed incorporating them all together.
They are, by far, one of the most popular toys.
Building with others requires negotiating, team work, patience and being able to share.
Sharing is challenging when many children want to play at the same time but when you have like minded friends, amazing things can happen.
We have a rule when it comes to block play and it's, 'If you build it you can knock it down. If you didn't build it you may not knock it down.'
Many of us have learned how it feels when the structure you built got knocked down therefore the rule makes sense ...to most.
We are always amazed at how capable the children are if you give them the time, supplies, and space to be creative.

Indoor fun during frigid February weather.

We started off our day with Mrs Crockett reading us this awesome story. Ask me about it or pick it up at the library.

Too cold to play outside but just perfect for baking. We made banana chocolate chip muffins
which we ate for snack. Mmmmmm good!!!!

After mashing up the bananas we added the other ingredients. My job was to add the oil.

I added the mashed up bananas and the sour cream.

I cracked open the egg. Mme. Martin said not to squeeze it but to open it like a door.

When all the ingredients were in we took turns mixing everything together.

While our friends were helping with the baking some us us played a memory game with Mrs. Crockett.

The balance boards were new so we tried balancing on them. It was really tricky. We used our arms to help us keep our balance.

We love wearing the capes and playing super heroes with our friends. Sometimes it's hard to
   remember not to run inside.

                                                      Wednesday

Another cold day. Perfect time to get out creative with fingerprints. We made designs,
created new colours and enjoyed the feel of the paints on our hands.

                                                    Friday
Today we had a field trip to the zoo. It was a really cold day so we were thankful most of our time was spent indoors.

Our teacher Bran gave a presentation on the ABCs of zoo animals.

This is what a camel's skull looks like. We got to touch it Did you know that camels store fat in their humps.

This awesome turtle shell belonged to a sea turtle. All turtles have 13 scutes, that is what those little plates on the shell are called. They get bigger as the turtle grows. A turtle's shell is attached to it's body at the backbone.

Did you know that girl reindeer keep their antlers all winter and the males shed theirs in the fall. That means all Santa's reindeer are girls.

See our antlers.

We finished our morning in Toucan Ridge. It was like being in the jungle.

                                                            Wednesday

One of the children remarked "Looks like two eyeballs."

This is my sandwich.

Here is the butter.
